After watching Spike Lee’s documentary on hurricane Katrina, the haunting emotions I felt while watching the coverage last year have suddenly all crept back. Hypnotically absorbing, yet shockingly tragic at the same time. Amidst all the finger pointing and arrogance, only one thing is clear - that what happened was a human tragedy.
My timing on this was unintentional, but almost a year ago to the day, I posted a picture of Grace church, the same one you see here. I had called it ‘grace_Us’, and besides the obvious play on puns, it was my immediate response to what was going on expressed using the only medium I was familiar with. Cut to a year later and the scene is slightly removed, cautious, reflecting on the bigger picture perhaps, but through it all I like to think there is a sense of hope that pervades.

Juliette finance un-exraordinaire in NYC 8/31/06Juliette: I believe that’s the Met Life building. The Empire State is behind the shorter set of bulidings on the left. It’s what’s causing that funky glow.
Jimmie cornershots guy in nyc 9/1/06You are right! At first, i was thinking you were refering at the MetLife builing mid-town (http://www.wirednewyork.com/metlife.htm) which has absolutely no glow and is not exactly an architectural beauty.
