“One of these things is not like the other …” Astor Place has always been a challenge to photograph for one reason or another. I dunno whether it’s the lighting, angles, or just the pedestrian hustle. I decided to try right before sunset and just grab it all. related (The heat wave is finally over!)
I used to love that building…now it just seems arrogant and out of place. Great panorama shot…you are becoming exceedingly skilled at this kind of photography.
Julien Sorel Social Climber in NYC 8/4/06Yeah, I think laying everything out puts the Gwathmey into perspective. I think that thing is still not even half occupied. Give my regards to Orsino when you get a chance.
Jimmie cornershots guy in NYC 8/4/06the street looks remarkably clean. it’s a great shot..i too find that glass catastrophe quite an eyesore and if i had 12 million i’m not sure i’d even want to live there. Amazing block everything from genius at cooper union to kmart!
doodlehedz in nyc 8/5/06I like this! Especially the way you made the KMart building look.
JulietteV Finance un-exraordinaire in NYC 8/5/06There was an article not too long ago in the New York Magazine about that ugly glass tower - here is the link: http://nymag.com/realestate/vu/2006/17319/
It is as you say, half occupied. I just think it is so out of place.
Damn. This is way cool, I love shots like this with a way out of the ordinary perspective. I like the glass monstrosity, it contrasts nicely with all the older buildings and highlights the fact that they have character and detail. BTW, thanks for the email letting me know about Cornershots 2.0 - I know it was a while back, I’m just a little slow.
SD Hustler in Atlanta 8/9/06Very nice, and just at the right time of day. Best wishes Neil
