I have tried to create this effect with no success at all. Care to share your technique? … Wonderful shot, crisp and clean, … great colour & lighting. :)
Seriously… If your camera has it, bulb mode is the trick. You hold the shutter button down and it stays open until you release it. As long as the camera stays stable (ie: YOU MUST USE A TRIPOD), you can grab an effect like this because the open shutter will only streak what moves.
(Jim, if I’m wrong feel free to tell me to shut up!)
Though I didn’t use bulb Vinny, basically the same idea. I think this one was a 30 sec at f7.1 or so. Just keep a steady tripod and bracket your exposures so you get a good range. On second glance, I think the colors came out too much on the ‘cool’ side.
This is so cool. I just discovered your site yesterday and I love it. I live in Tennessee but my nephew attends Columbia University so it is nice to get a daily dose of NYC.

I love the distancy from reality this photo creates. Escapism in semi-detached homes.

Grrrrreat…now I have to go and try to copy THIS! Will you stop raising the bar?? :)
“Grrrrreat…now I have to go and try to copy THIS! Will you stop raising the bar?? :)”
It’s funny, but that was my initial reaction also. Not so much “copying,” but “I WANNA TRY THAT!” Oddly enough I knew how to do it, but I never thought to do it this way.
Guess that’s why visual arts are such a fun hobby!
I love your photos. Check this link out to view mine. Tell me what you think if you have time. I’d love to hear an expert’s opinion. I’ve never had them looked at. Amature I am :)
